Overview

The Quality Manager will oversee the entire Quality Management System, ensuring products meet customer specifications, regulatory standards (e.g., ISO 9001:2015), and internal procedures. The role monitors and advises on the performance of the Quality Management System and, by producing appropriate data, reports on its performance to ensure the system functions properly.

Setting standards, communicating quality changes or system improvements, providing training, tools, and techniques to achieve minimum quality standards.


Responsibilities

* Develop, implement and maintain a robust quality management system (QMS) to ensure compliance with ISO 9001.
* Apply productive quality processing and, by utilising technical quality knowledge and engineering/manufacturing processing skills, strive for reductions in non‑compliance.
* Apply responsibility relating to internal/external communications, standard operating procedures and overall company performance.
* Create a bank of standard operating procedures and work instructions.
* Develop, implement and maintain a non‑conformance reporting (NCR) system, conduct root cause analysis, and implement lasting solutions.
* Take responsibility for non‑compliance resolution, implementing timely corrective or preventive actions, and lowering costs.
* Investigate customer complaints.
* Support and participate in factory acceptance testing (FAT) of new machinery.
* Improve the organisation's quality assurance systems and increase manufacturing reliability through improved inspection processing.
* Interact with suppliers, sub‑contractors, and internal departments on any quality matter.
* Qualify and approve new and existing suppliers through supplier audits.
* Take full responsibility for incoming, in‑process and final inspection of raw materials, bought‑in items and machined/fabricated components.
* Go beyond generic checking procedures and identify suitable techniques that reduce “on the job” variation, developing comprehensive quality practices.
* Communicate changes and share quality knowledge through written reports, verbal instruction, personal and group discussion, and presentation with appropriate departments.
* Discuss, agree and validate any quality proposals with the General Manager prior to implementation or change.
* Provide leadership when educating the Company on quality practice, managing employee misperceptions.
* Perform audits, prepare documents and records, ensuring the system is effectively implemented.
* Liaise with other employees to ensure the quality system functions properly.
* Develop and administer in‑house quality training.
* Ensure quality objectives are achieved.
* Drive continuous quality improvement through methodologies such as lean manufacturing or Six Sigma.

The above list of tasks is not exhaustive; the Quality Manager may be required to undertake duties as reasonably expected. All employees must be flexible and cooperative to meet business needs.


Scope

The Quality Manager defines, implements, and maintains the Company's QMS to meet customer, safety, and regulatory standards, managing the entire quality lifecycle from supplier raw materials to final inspection, while driving continuous improvement, cost reduction, and compliance with national/international standards.


Accountability and Performance Measures

* Maintain and improve the QMS to ensure effectiveness and compliance.
* Ensure adherence to regulatory and industry requirements (e.g., ISO).
* Reduce waste, enhance efficiency, and minimise non‑conformities.
* Manage the customer feedback loop, analyze complaints, and implement improvements.
* Work with purchasing to define and monitor quality standards from external suppliers.
* Train employees in quality procedures and foster a quality‑focused culture.


Skills and Abilities

* Proven ability to manage, maintain, and continually improve a quality assurance system.
* Acquire, analyse, and present data to develop ideal inspection methods and implement them.
* Proven ability to manage and develop a team.
* Excellent problem‑solving, communication (verbal & written), and listening skills.


Experience and Knowledge

* ISO 9001:2015 knowledge.
* Knowledge of productive quality processing.
* Understanding of regulatory compliance for machinery (CE Marking, EU Machinery Directive).
* Experience in engineering and batch manufacturing.
* Experience in quality systems in manufacturing of components for the food industry is advantageous.
* Knowledge of internal audits to ISO 9001:2015.


Qualifications

* Time Served Engineer.
* Minimum BTEC Certificate and Diploma in Operational Engineering or Quality, ideally a degree.
* Trained Internal Auditor ISO 9001:2015.
* Ideally fully trained Lead Auditor ISO 9001:2015.


The Person

* An excellent problem solver who uses data appropriately and accurately to justify quality decisions.
* Excellent communicator in writing and verbally, confident when presenting.
* Advocate for quality, prioritizing risk management and health and safety.


Health and Safety

The person will familiarize themselves with the Company Health and Safety Policy and their responsibilities under the relevant legislation (Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 & Management of Health & Safety Regulations 1999).


Hours of Work

Monday to Thursday: 8:00 am to 5:15 pm with a 30 min unpaid break for lunch.
Friday: 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.
