Overview
BGS Utilities is a growing multi-utility infrastructure provider operating across the North West. We deliver high-quality gas, electric, water, and highways works for developers, local authorities, and network owners. As our workload and footprint continue to expand, we are seeking an experienced and proactive Site Manager to support the safe, efficient, and profitable delivery of our projects.
Role Purpose
The Site Manager will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day performance, safety, and productivity of multi-utility site teams, ensuring reinstatement and utility works are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required adopting company standards. Reporting to the Project Managers and the Head of Service Delivery, the Site Manager will play a key role in maintaining programme delivery, ensuring compliance with highways and utility regulations, and acting as a key point of contact between site teams, subcontractors, and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* Project & Site Delivery
o Work closely with Project Managers to ensure project packs are issued correctly, with all required permits, drawings, RAMS, and documentation in place prior to works commencing.
o Review team work instructions to ensure information is accurate, relevant, and up to date.
o Carry out pre-site visits within required timeframes and liaise with Highway Authorities to arrange joint inspections where necessary.
o Provide accurate breakdowns of work activities for site teams and resolve operational issues promptly.
o Identify variations and notify Project Managers to enable timely submission of Variation Orders (VOs).
* Team Management & Performance
o Oversee daily performance of site teams, ensuring productivity, quality, and professionalism are maintained.
o Collate, check, and sign off weekly timesheets for direct employees.
o Monitor driver behaviour and performance to ensure safety and company standards are upheld.
o Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, workmanship, and outcomes.
* Health, Safety & Compliance
o Ensure all teams operate safely and in full compliance with company policies, health & safety legislation, and accreditation requirements.
o Proactively promote a positive safety culture across all sites.
o Deliver toolbox talks and conduct audits as required, ensuring all records are completed and submitted monthly.
o Liaise with local authorities regarding traffic management, reinstatement standards, Section 50 (S50) notices, and Section 74 compliance.
o Aim to achieve zero Section 74 defects or overruns.
* Subcontractor & Stakeholder Management
o Manage and monitor subcontractors to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to specification.
o Build and maintain strong working relationships with subcontractors, network owners, and local authorities to improve productivity and profitability.
o Visit customers and developers where required to resolve issues, remove barriers, and provide effective solutions.
o Arrange plant and equipment hire as required.
o Coordinate delivery of materials including backfill, reinstatement materials, barriers, and signage.
o Ensure company stores and external working areas are kept clean, tidy, and well organised at all times.
* Relationship Management
o Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders.
o Act as a professional ambassador for BGS Utilities at all times when dealing with clients, authorities, and the public.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
* Proven experience as a Site Manager or similar role within utilities, highways, or civil engineering.
* Experience managing multi-utility projects (gas, electric, water, highways).
* Strong understanding of health & safety legislation, NRSWA, S50/S74, and related compliance requirements.
* Ability to manage multiple sites and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* High levels of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
* Strong communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
* Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): pre-site visits completed within 1 week of project award; completion of toolbox talks and audits to required standard; zero Section 74 defects or overruns; high levels of customer satisfaction; strong team and driver performance; successful delivery of projects within budget and programme.
