The Griffin is a well established family-run seaside pub and restaurant located on the coast of Pembrokeshire, Wales. We pride ourselves on serving fresh, local seafood alongside traditional home-cooked pub classics. Whether it's enjoying a seafood platter by the sea or tucking into hearty pub favourites, our customers come to us for a taste of the coast. As a seasonal business, we experience a surge of activity during the summer months, so we're looking for a dedicated prep cook and kitchen assistant to join our kitchen team until the end of the season - November 2025.
Role Overview (live-in option available)
As a Prep Cook / Kitchen Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting our kitchen operation, ensuring the preparation of high-quality dishes, particularly desserts. You will assist with the prep work for main menu items and ensure the consistency and quality of the desserts, while keeping a clean and organised workspace. This position offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, perfect for someone who enjoys both the craft of cooking and the art of dessert creation.
Key Responsibilities:
* Food Prep:
* Assist in the preparation of ingredients for starters, mains, desserts and sides as needed.
* Ensure all ingredients are stored, labeled, and handled according to health and safety regulations.
* Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment, ensuring proper sanitation at all times.
* Collaboration & Support:
* Work alongside the kitchen team to ensure smooth service during peak hours.
* Assist with the timely delivery of food orders to the front of house, ensuring high standards of quality and presentation.
* Quality Control:
* Monitor stock levels of ingredients for desserts and dishes and ensure timely re-ordering.
* Ensure that all dishes are prepared to the highest standards of taste and presentation, in line with the restaurant's ethos.
Skills & Experience:
* Previous preparing/cooking experience in a kitchen environment, preferably in a similar role (prep chef, pastry chef, dessert chef).
* Strong attention to detail and an ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
* Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, with excellent time management skills.
* A keen interest in seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients.
* Team player with a positive attitude and excellent communication skills.
* Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices.
