Our client is a medium sized and well established contractor working across rail and general building projects, with 20 plus years in the rail and construction sectors. All projects are in the South East area and include London and surrounding areas, Anglia and Hertfordshire.
They are looking for an experienced Rail Site Manager to join their team. You MUST have either current or previous rail project experience. This is a hands-on role within a close-knit, supportive company, not a corporate environment, where you will have real autonomy and responsibility.
The role involves managing a number of live projects at the same time, with values ranging from £200k through to £2–3 million. Projects typically include light refurbishment and civil works within a rail environment, alongside general building activities. You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of sites, ensuring work is delivered safely, to programme, within budget, and to a high standard.
Rail experience is essential, as the role requires managing and understanding all rail-related site documentation and reporting. This includes RAMS, permits, construction phase plans, daily reports, and general rail compliance paperwork.
You will be the key point of contact on site, working closely with clients, subcontractors, and internal management.
The job will suit someone who is confident managing multiple jobs, can work independently, and takes a practical, problem-solving approach. SMSTS is essential, and previous experience delivering light refurbishment or civils projects within a rail environment is required. A trade background and general building experience would be an advantage, but are not essential.
This role would suit someone who enjoys working for a smaller contractor, where relationships matter, decisions are made quickly, and contributions are genuinely valued.
