About the Role:
We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Care Home Cook to join our dedicated team here at Edward House Care Home. This is a vital role within our care setting, where you'll play an essential part in delivering high-quality, nutritious meals that support the health and well-being of our residents.
The successful candidate must have proven experience working as a cook—preferably within a care home or similar healthcare environment—and be confident in preparing a variety of meals, including those requiring texture-modified diets (IDDSI framework), while meeting individual dietary requirements and preferences.
Key Responsibilities:
* Plan, prepare, and cook nutritious, well-balanced meals tailored to residents' dietary needs
* Safely prepare texture-modified meals (e.g., pureed, minced & moist, soft) as per IDDSI guidelines
* Maintain high standards of hygiene and food safety in accordance with current regulations
* Ensure that all meals are appetizing, visually appealing, and served on time
* Work closely with care staff to ensure all residents' nutritional and hydration needs are met
* Monitor and manage kitchen supplies and food stock
* Clean kitchen equipment and work areas in line with infection control standards
* Complete relevant documentation and kitchen audits compliant with national standards and company policy.
Requirements:
* Proven experience as a cook in a care home or similar setting is essential
* Strong understanding of nutritional needs of older adults, including those with swallowing difficulties
* Experience preparing texture-modified diets and special dietary requirements (e.g., diabetic, vegetarian)
* Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2 – Essential
* Food Hygiene Certificate Level 3 – Desirable
* Knowledge of food hygiene, kitchen safety, and infection control
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Excellent time management and organisational skills
