Department The People and Culture (Human Resources) section’s purpose is to develop, advise and support University senior staff, managers and support employees on best people management and leadership practice through the development of employment strategy, policy, procedures and services that support the delivery of the University’s strategic goals, balancing the needs of the employees and the needs of the University. Position We are looking for a highly motivated Reward Manager to support the delivery of our People Supporting strategy by leading our reward, payroll, and pensions functions within the People and Culture Employee Relations and Reward Team. Duties of the role You will line manage the Payroll and Pensions Team Leader, who leads a small team of Payroll and Pensions Administrators. Key responsibilities of this post include: Coach and support the Reward team in their work and technical understanding. Make a leading contribution to the development, delivery and management of reward and associated strategies for the University of Essex. Managing operational reward (including payroll & pensions) activities. Contributing to a variety of projects to support the achievement of the university’s strategy. A pivotal part of the post is to ensure policies and processes within payroll, pensions and reward are legally and HMRC compliant. Skills and experience required In order to be successful, you will be CIPP qualified and hold CIPP membership, together with sound technical knowledge of UK payroll and pensions issues and legislation and experience of managing a team within a payroll/finance setting. You will have effective project management skills and experience of developing systems and processes which are fit for purpose, improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, with the ability to lead and motivate a team. You will have the skills to convey complex information to a range of audiences and be able to work on your own initiative, manage workload efficiently and within deadlines. People & Culture employees are working on a hybrid arrangement where you will be required to work 2 days in the office and 3 days at home.
