Are you looking to develop your catering career? Do you thrive in a friendly, supportive environment where your skills can grow and shine?

We’re looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Cook to join our friendly school community. This is a role with room to grow and comes with a chance to make a real difference in the lives of our students through healthy, tasty food. Hours are Monday to Friday, 7.30am until 3.30pm, 39 weeks per year.

About the school:

Set in its own grounds close to Frome town centre, North Hill House is an independent specialist day school for children and young people aged 6 to 19 years with high functioning autistic spectrum disorders, including Asperger’s Syndrome and associated difficulties.

The school has been specifically designed to provide a strong focus for both UK and international students who need different levels of support to succeed, thus allowing young people with autistic spectrum disorders, Asperger’s Syndrome and associated difficulties to thrive effectively in an ever-demanding and complex society. Students have ambitions to live and work as self-reliant adults and we can help them to reach their goals with continued support, structure and guidance.

About the role:

We’re looking for a positive team player with a can-do attitude and a commitment to high standards of hygiene and food safety. Collaboration and adaptability will be key. Being part of a small team that will grow over time means that, with training and guidance, you'll have the opportunity to develop the catering provision as the school expands.

In this role, you will be responsible for cooking within the school as well as menu planning, shopping and adhering to set budgets to deliver healthy, varied and nutritious meals for young people and staff. In addition, you will be responsible for ensuring that the kitchen and serving areas are kept to a high standard of hygiene, including food and equipment storage.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day line management of the school’s two catering assistants, ensuring they are:

Supported in their roles through regular check-ins, clear communication, and access to necessary resources.

Encouraged to develop professionally, with opportunities for training, skill-building and involvement in broader school initiatives, where appropriate.

If you’re ready to bring your culinary flair to a place where you’ll be appreciated and encouraged to grow, we’d love to hear from you!

You will ideally have a Level 3 Award in Supervising Food Safety in Catering and a valid food hygiene certificate, although training can be provided if needed.

Our benefits include:

1. Exclusive access to reward and discount scheme
2. Comprehensive induction
3. Blue Light Card
4. Commitment to your ongoing training and career progression
5. Teacher pension scheme
6. Paid for enhanced PVG/DBS
7. Wellbeing support
8. Cycle to work scheme and more!

As the school's Cook you will be required to:

Plan, prepare, and cook fresh well-balanced meals for pupils and staff, considering their specific dietary requirements and preferences

Collaborate with special education staff to develop interesting and varied menus that accommodate individual dietary restrictions and sensory needs

Ensure that all meals are prepared and served in accordance with food safety regulations and best practices

Maintain stock levels

Maintain accurate records in accordance with health & safety policies

Foster a positive dining experience for pupils by creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere during mealtimes

Above all, we provide a supportive and collaborative working environment where you can flourish in your career and feel incredibly rewarded by helping those who need it most.
