Are you an experienced Cook with a passion for food? The Home Slemish Nursing Home, built over 35 years ago and located at the edge of Ballymena, is seeking a dedicated Cook for a maternity cover position. Our care team has a long-standing reputation in Ballymena for delivering excellent Nursing Care in a homely, friendly, and professional environment, led by a manager with over 20 years of experience.
We are committed to providing Palliative, End of Life, and Physical Disability Care, which is highly recognized in our local area. The home currently has a capacity of 37 beds, expanding to 63 beds next month after extension completion. We foster a welcoming atmosphere where family and friends can visit anytime, ensuring a feeling of home for our residents.
The Role
The role of Cook is vital in our mission to provide high-quality, person-centered dining experiences that support residents' health and wellbeing. The Cook will work closely with the Chef, supporting menu planning, meal preparation, kitchen management, and compliance with regulatory standards. This position involves more than just preparing meals; it plays a key role in meeting dietary needs and maintaining a safe, positive working environment.
Main Responsibilities
1. Support the kitchen team and Chef with training, development, motivation, and best practices.
2. Plan, prepare, and deliver food efficiently and effectively.
3. Ensure operational standards and compliance are met.
4. Monitor and assist with the catering budget.
5. Develop and create varied, interesting menus.
6. Organize stock ordering and rotation cost-effectively.
7. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Home Manager.

Minimum Requirements
* Right to Work in the UK
* At least 2 years experience as a Cook or in a similar food prep/kitchen role
* Basic Food Safety certificate
* Excellent communication skills
* Understanding of dietary, nutritional, and cultural needs of elderly residents
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail
* Basic knowledge of HACCP, COSHH, and Health & Safety standards
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience in a care home or healthcare environment (desirable but not essential)
