About the Role
We’re looking for a highly skilled Web Directory Developer with strong expertise in WordPress, PHP, and directory architecture, including membership systems, user roles, and content relationships.
The ideal candidate is technically strong, detail-oriented, and capable of building complex, scalable, and SEO-optimized directory solutions that deliver excellent user experience and performance.
This role emphasizes not just building with tools, but designing structured, efficient, and maintainable directory systems that can scale and integrate seamlessly with user-submitted content and membership frameworks.
What You’ll Be Doing
1. Directory Architecture & Membership Systems
1. Lead the design and development of custom directory sites using Custom Post Types (CPTs), custom fields, and relationships between listings, categories, locations, and tags.
2. Implement advanced search and filtering logic optimized for scalability (large datasets, dynamic queries, caching strategies).
3. Build membership frameworks for user registration, content submission, role-based permissions, and moderation workflows.
4. Ensure data validation, security, and efficient workflows for user-submitted content.
5. Apply SEO best practices and implement structured data for dynamic listings.
2. WordPress, PHP, and WooCommerce Mastery
6. Develop, maintain, and customize complex WordPress and WooCommerce websites with focus on performance, security, and scalability.
7. Create custom plugins and themes when off-the-shelf solutions do not meet project requirements.
8. Manage advanced WooCommerce setups, including subscriptions, automated exports, and membership integrations.
9. Leverage CPTs and custom fields using ACF, Toolset, or native meta for dynamic content.
3. Core Development & Maintenance
10. Proficiency in PHP, JavaScript, and jQuery; knowledge of modern frameworks (React, Vue) is a plus.
11. HTML/CSS expertise for precise design implementation.
12. Read, understand, and enhance existing codebases from various builders (DIVI, Elementor, Bricks, WP Bakery, Gutenberg).
13. Integrate third-party APIs confidently to extend site functionality.
14. Use version control (Git or similar) for collaborative development.
Must-Have Experience
15. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Development, or equivalent hands-on experience.
16. 3–5 years of proven experience in WordPress, directory site development, or complex web applications.
17. Strong portfolio showcasing directory architecture, membership systems, custom plugins, and WordPress integrations.
