The recruitment group is working with an independent school where Autism is their first language. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dedicated team in a superb location.
Our client is seeking a Handy man to work across three sites, performing general maintenance duties.
Main duties and responsibilities:
1. Ensure a clean, tidy, and well-maintained school environment (buildings and grounds).
2. Proactively identify maintenance requirements through regular site inspections.
3. Monitor and report health & safety concerns, taking immediate action to mitigate risks.
4. Order materials and equipment with approval from Senior Premises Officer and/or Head of Compliance.
5. Manage repairs and maintenance of buildings and grounds, including electrics, plumbing, heating, glass, doors, painting, and decorating.
6. Utilize mechanised and non-mechanised tools to complete tasks.
7. Attend training, work safely, and maintain accurate records.
8. Maintain buildings and amenities, including waste collection and management.
9. Report and repair hazards such as broken windows or equipment, in coordination with landlords if necessary.
10. Liaise with service companies and contractors as needed.
11. Respond to emergencies such as floods, illegal entries, and fires.
12. Communicate planned works to relevant managers to minimize impact on students.
13. Perform all duties with compassion and understanding of learners' needs.
Experience and knowledge requirements:
1. Basic craft skills (plumbing, electrical, decorating) or experience in caretaking roles.
2. Experience with DIY tools (drills, screwdrivers).
3. Painting and decorating skills.
4. Valid driving license & business insurance.
5. Motivated, proactive, and able to work independently.
6. Flexible working hours, including outside of school hours when needed.
7. Ability to undertake risk assessments and identify unsafe practices.
8. Knowledge of moving and handling procedures, physically capable of tasks like lifting and snow clearing.
