We're looking for an enthusiastic and hands on site manager to coordinate our operations in the beautiful Gawthorpe Estate which includes the refurbished Great Barn complex, our estate offices and ranger facilities. The role will include a close working relationship with our stakeholders Lancashire County Council who operate the Hall and Gardens and the future operator of the café within the Barn complex, as well as our neighbours including Burnley Football Club whose training facilities adjoin our site. You will be an organised self-starter with an understanding of facilities management who has excellent relationship building skills and is passionate about working in a historic environment, and maximising the benefits of the estate for the local community. Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week. The role will support the opening of our facilities to maximise public benefit and be largely core hours 0900-1700 with regular weekend working and some evening work. Interview date: Friday 5th December For an informal conversation about this role and to obtain further information about our portfolio please contact the hiring manager dan.taylor@nationaltrust.org.uk What it's like to work here The Gawthorpe estate is a much loved green space and cultural asset which lies on the river Calder on the edge of Padiham and Burnley with views of Pendle Hill. The estate is nationally significant with the Grade 1 listed Elizabethan Hall, Great Barn and Coach House all built in the early 1600’s, beautiful formal gardens and 40 acres of woodlands which include a hidden Walled Garden and a natural play area. We manage the estate in a close partnership working arrangement with Lancashire County Council who have leased and operated the Hall and Gardens since 1970, with the Great Barn, Coach House and woodlands all being managed by a small National Trust estate team. Gawthorpe sits within a group of properties in South Cumbria and Lancashire which includes the Stubbins Estate, Rufford Old Hall, and Sizergh. You will be a key member of the Portfolio Leadership Team, supporting the General Manager to deliver an ambitious plan which will focus on improving access for all, and restoring nature. What you'll be doing You will be accountable for the day-to-day management, visitor operations and compliance for the Great Barn complex, our estate offices and ranger facilities within the Gawthorpe Estate. You will help to create a positive, inclusive and collaborative working environment with our staff, volunteers, and stakeholders. We are now entering an exciting chapter in the long history of the estate as we have secured the funding we need for Great Barn re-roofing project which will complete in mid 2026. Your role will oversee the re-opening of the barn and you will be responsible for developing the best possible arrangements to maximise public benefit. With the support of our marketing officer, you will work with local community and business organisations to raise awareness of the opportunity to hire the barn and create a simple process for booking access, as well as opening and closing the space for visitors to marvel at this nationally significant Grade 1 listed structure. You'll be responsible for coordinating the facilities that we manage, making sure we are safe and compliant, whilst working in accordance with the National Trust values and behaviours. You will work alongside our ranger team on site and will work with volunteers who support us in looking after our estate.
