Job Summary
To provide countryside services, including:
* Management of sites, including monitoring, reviewing, writing, and delivery of management plans.
* Leading volunteers, work experience, and other external groups and educational activities.
* Promoting the service and key council priorities positively.
* Providing support for events and other promotional/commercial activities.
* Responding to enquiries.
Dimensions of Job
* Deliver quality countryside services for Hart District Council.
* Work evenings, bank holidays, and callouts as required, including a weekend rota.
* Provide high levels of customer service both internally and externally.
* Promote the HART values by being helpful, approachable, responsive, and taking ownership of challenges.
Main Responsibilities and Activities
* Ensure management of all sites meet high standards, including achieving and maintaining “favourable condition” on SSSI’s and retaining all Green Flags.
* Support the Senior Ranger with high quality management and project planning.
* Adhere to Health and Safety legislation by carrying out risk assessments and safety plans, including basic tree inspections and related works.
* Mentor apprentices, trainees, work experience students, and volunteers.
* Promote the council and its activities in line with communication plans, policies, and strategies.
* Plan and deliver community and corporate events, volunteer activities, and public engagement events.
* Maintain equipment and vehicles safely, keeping work areas neat and tidy.
* Organise financial estimates, produce specifications, purchase materials, and monitor expenditure in line with budgetary limits.
* Continuously develop relevant competencies for quality service delivery.
* Use initiative to identify efficiency improvements and drive positive change, including commercialisation, climate change, and biodiversity initiatives.
* Ensure safeguarding practices are adhered to when working with the public.
* Provide a high-quality service ensuring customers feel warm, welcome, and cared for.
* Consistently promote the HART Values: being helpful, approachable, responsive, and taking ownership of challenges.

Person Specification
This role requires a recognised (HND, Degree or Equivalent) qualification in relevant subjects or demonstrable relevant experience, alongside at least 3 years post-qualification experience or extensive experience in land management services.
Desirable attributes include Lantra certifications, tractor driving, chainsaw operation, and other specific skills. The candidate must demonstrate:
* Effective oral and written communication skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other countryside management software.
* A high degree of financial management competency.
* The ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
* Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, bank holidays, and attend emergency callouts.
* A commitment to professional and personal development.
Other Working Requirements: Ability to attend out-of-hours meetings, work from home when necessary, and have access to a car for work purposes.
