Contract Type: Fixed Term for 2 years

Working Hours: Flexible between 8am and 6pm - term time only

Worker Type: Hybrid Worker

Salary: £32,597 - £35,412 per annum (pro rata for term time only)

Location: Dragon Court, 1 Woolsthorpe Close, Nottingham, NG8 3BP.

About the Role

Behaviour Learning Mentor – INclude Service

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children and young people?
We’re looking for a Behaviour Learning Mentor to join our INclude Service, supporting pupils at risk of permanent exclusion from school with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

In this rewarding role, you will:

1. Work directly with children and young people to build positive relationships, strengthen resilience and support emotional regulation.
2. Help schools and families understand behaviour as communication and develop effective support strategies.
3. Support attendance, reintegration, Supported Transfers and placement stability for vulnerable learners.
4. Collaborate with teachers, parents, and multi-agency partners to promote inclusion and wellbeing.
5. Deliver targeted sessions, monitor progress, and contribute to wider behaviour support practices across the city.

We’re looking for someone who is empathetic, resilient and confident working with a wide range of children, families and professionals. Experience in education, youth work, counselling or social care is desirable.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

Qualifications

6. Equivalent to NQF level 4

Knowledge areas

7. Up‑to‑date understanding of current good practice in supporting children with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) and behavioural needs
8. Knowledge of inclusive education principles, particularly how they apply to children and young people with SEMH needs.
9. Understanding of how early childhood experiences impact behaviour and learning within the school environment.

Essential Skills

10. Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with a wide range of children, young people and families from diverse backgrounds.
11. Ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff and senior leaders.
12. Skills in counselling, facilitation, and supporting others to develop.
13. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
14. Ability to work independently, within a team, and across teams.
15. Understanding of a child or young person’s educational, emotional and behavioural needs.
16. Ability to identify barriers to wellbeing, regulation and learning—and work collaboratively to overcome them.
17. Skills in planning, delivering and evaluating Learning Mentor sessions and parenting support.
18. Ability to engage pupils in meaningful Pupil Voice work.

Experience

19. Experience working in schools, youth work, counselling, social care or similar child‑focused settings.
20. Experience supporting children and young people as individuals, tailoring approaches to their needs.

This post is covered by the statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) (English Language Requirement for public sector workers) and therefore the ability to speak fluent English, is an essential requirement for the role.

A DBS enhanced check for a regulated activity is required for this post.
