Barking and Dagenham College have an excited opportunity for a Student Development and Safeguarding Manager to join our team. You will join us on a f ull-time, 36 hpw, permanent/ basis ; in return, we will offer a competitive salary of £46,307 to £50,307 pa inclusive of London Weighting. The R ole: The Student Development and Safeguarding Manager provides operational leadership across the college’s Employability, Enrichment, and Pastoral (Safeguarding) provision. This role ensures students are supported to develop the skills, experiences, and personal attributes required for success in further study, employment, and wider life. The postholder oversees Careers & Employability (CEIAG) with work experience elements, and personal skills development, alongside leading an inclusive Enrichment programme. They also manage the Safeguarding Team and coordinate safeguarding operations, working closely with and under the direction of the Director of Student Welfare & Support/Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). Key Responsibilities : Develop and implement a whole‑college EEP Strategy aligned to organisational priorities, statutory guidance, and Ofsted expectations. Manage the CEIAG programme/offer and ensure alignment to the Gatsby Benchmarks. Design and manage a dynamic enrichment programme including clubs, events, volunteering, and leadership opportunities. Manage the Safeguarding Team, including LAC and Counselling ensuring effective responses to safeguarding disclosures and concerns. Manage budgets, resources, and operational planning effectively. Monitor service effectiveness using KPIs, audit outcomes, and feedback These duties are not shown in order of priority or frequency, nor is the list comprehensive, but rather an indication of the type and level of duties expected of the post. Our ideal Student Development and Safeguarding Manager should have the following qualifications, skills and experience: Minimum Level 6 in Careers Guidance & Development (qualified) (E) Evidence of CPD in safeguarding, employability, or student development. i.e. Level 3 safeguarding qualification (E) Minimum NVQ L4 in Information, Advice & Guidance or equivalent qualification (or willing to work towards within 1 year) (D) Minimum of 2 years demonstratable experience of managing employability, enrichment, pastoral, or safeguarding teams/services.(E) Evidence of providing IAG on learning and work opportunities to diverse client groups/ Experience of engaging with external stakeholders to create work experience and employment opportunities (E) Understanding of Gatsby Benchmarks and CEIAG best practice. (E) Ability to work constructively with young people and adults by providing robust CEIAG and supporting all WEx opportunities (E) For full criteria please see attached job description.
