Please note that with effect from 1 April, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30, and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £30, per annum / £16.64 per hour)
The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.
Job purpose/about the role
To manage the preparation, cooking and serving of meals in a safe, hygienic, efficient manner providing a high standard of customer service. Whilst also providing feedback for service improvement to the Catering Manager / Catering Team Leader and Catering Advisor.
The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:
1. An Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate or willingness to undertake and pass this course within 6 months.
2. FSA – Food Standards Agency's food allergy online training and pass this course within 1 month.
3. Full PVG (Disclosure Scotland Protection of Vulnerable Groups) certificate – this will be processed and received prior to any start date being confirmed.
The postholder is able to demonstrate:
4. Proficient cooking skills in preparing large-scale meal production, ensuring consistently high-quality presentation.
5. Awareness of risks within a kitchen environment.
6. Ability to count cash and cheques.
7. Effectively line manage staff, following organisational Policies and Procedures.
8. Good written and numeracy skills.
9. Good verbal communication skills.
10. Sound understanding of the English language to ensure health and safety standards are met.
11. Good ICT skills pertaining to the functions of catering services.
12. Ability to follow defined recipes provided by the service for the preparation of meals.
13. High standard of hygiene awareness.
