About Us
Payroll Sorted is a fast-growing payroll bureau that works exclusively with accountants across the UK. We've built our reputation on systemisation, automation, and delivering a consistently high standard of service to our partners. We're now ready for our first dedicated HR Manager to shape, build, and run HR inside our business.
The Role
This is a brilliant opportunity for an ambitious HR professional to step up into a standalone HR Manager role. You'll be responsible for:
* Recruitment & onboarding: Managing adverts, shortlisting, interviews, and structured onboarding.
* Performance & people processes: Ensuring monthly check-ins, quarterly one-to-ones, and probation reviews happen consistently, and supporting managers when performance issues need documenting or escalating.
* Culture & engagement: Embedding our values and way of working into everyday practice.
* HR compliance: Owning contracts, policies, records, and ensuring we're legally watertight.
* Process ownership: Tracking and reporting on people processes so leadership has visibility without chasing.
What You'll Achieve in Your First 90 Days
* Take ownership of recruitment and onboarding.
* Roll out a structured framework for check-ins, one-to-ones, and probation reviews.
* Draft key policies we're missing (e.g. annual leave at Christmas).
* Support the transition of internal payroll responsibilities.
* Produce a simple monthly "state of the team" report for leadership.
Who We're Looking For
* An experienced HR Advisor or People Partner looking to step up into your first HR Manager role.
* Confident with recruitment, onboarding, and performance management.
* Organised and structured — you'll spot when things are slipping and make sure they happen.
* A straight talker who's fair, professional, and comfortable with difficult conversations.
* Someone who thrives in a growing business where accountability and ownership matter.
Why Join Us?
* You'll be our first dedicated HR Manager, the chance to make the role your own.
* Direct access to leadership, your work will be seen and valued every day.
* Real impact from day one, not lost in corporate layers.
* We're scaling, so there's room to shape and grow the role with us.
Package
* Salary: up to £36,000 (depending on experience).
* Full-time preferred, but part-time considered for the right person.
* Remote-first role, with occasional in-person days in Essex.
If you're ready to step up, stamp your authority on HR, and grow with a business that's scaling fast, we'd love to hear from you.
