What you’ll be doing
As a Second Chef, your responsibilities include supporting the Head Chef in ensuring food quality and timely delivery, taking control of kitchen operations in their absence, and utilizing modern equipment and fresh local produce to develop diet-sensitive meals for residents. You will also help design menus, consult with residents to meet their dietary needs and preferences, and prepare meals aligned with specific diets. Ultimately, your work will make a meaningful difference in residents' lives.
What you’ll need
You should have a Catering Diploma (City & Guilds/BTEC), NVQ Level 2/3 in practical cookery, and a Food Hygiene Certificate (minimum Level 2). Knowledge of nutritionally balanced menu planning and experience catering for specific dietary needs are essential. Experience in a care home, stock control, or working within a budget is advantageous but not mandatory. Above all, you should have a genuine desire to improve the lives of others and thrive in a challenging yet rewarding environment.
