Site Manager – Heritage / Listed Building Project
Location: Stockport
Salary: £50,000 – £55,000 per annum + £5k car allowance
Contract: Permanent, Full-time
Start Date: Beginning of September
We are seeking an experienced Site Manager to lead the delivery of a Listed School Conversion into high-quality apartments in Stockport. This is an exciting opportunity to join a reputable construction company and work on a project that requires expertise in heritage and conservation construction.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
* Manage daily site operations for heritage and conservation construction project.
* Assist the Project Manager in project completion and client handover.
* Oversee health & safety on site in line with subcontractor RAMS and safe systems of work.
* Coordinate subcontractors and in-house trades delivering specialist works (stone masonry, lime plastering, structural timber repairs, roofing, etc.).
* Implement and monitor site-specific health & safety plans.
* Ensure compliance with listed building consents, heritage regulations, and UK legislation.
* Liaise with conservation officers, design team, client representatives, and heritage consultants.
* Protect and preserve historic building fabric during all works.
* Maintain accurate site records, including daily logs and quality checks.
* Drive the project programme and highlight risks or delays.
* Conduct toolbox talks, inductions, and regular safety audits.
* Contribute to quality assurance, defect management, and smooth handover.
Required Skills & Experience
* Minimum 5 years’ site management experience with relevant heritage or conservation background.
* SMSTS certification.
* CSCS Managerial Card (Black or White).
* First Aid at Work (3-day) certificate.
* Strong knowledge of traditional building techniques and materials (lime mortar, slate, leadwork, etc.).
* Proven leadership of multi-disciplinary site teams.
* Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
* Understanding of construction sequencing and project reporting.
* Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
* NVQ Level 6 in Construction Site Management (or equivalent).
* Background in trades such as masonry, carpentry, or roofing.
* Experience working with Historic England, National Trust, or local conservation officers.
* Knowledge of CDM Regulations and heritage-specific risk management.
* Professional membership (CIOB, IHBC, or similar)
