Base pay range
Starting salary: £57,400 – £64,300, with opportunity to increase to £71,300. 29% pension contribution and other Civil Service benefits. Flexible, hybrid working from Plymouth (HQ), Weymouth or Gloucester.
Overview
HM Land Registry (HMLR) are launching a large data transformation programme to modernise legacy systems, unlock geospatial services and build cutting-edge analytical platforms. As a Senior Data Architect, you will help shape HMLR’s data future by leading on design, modelling and governance while mentoring others in a supportive, cross-government digital and data community.
HMLR’s ambition is to become the world’s leading land registry for speed, simplicity and an open approach to data. The role supports data management including data governance and provides leadership on HMLR’s Data Architecture, delivering data designs, models and artefacts that meet the organisation’s needs.
Location: Plymouth, Weymouth, or Gloucester (60% of your time in the office; flexible hours; occasional travel to Plymouth).
Job role
The post holder will keep up to date with data policy and standards affecting data management and will be aware of cross-government data architecture initiatives. The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of data designs, models and artefacts that describe HMLR data architecture, understand relevant strategies, and contribute to wider activities that define future roadmaps.
As a Senior Data Architect you will:
* Engage with internal and external stakeholders to understand data requirements and document data journeys.
* Develop data policies, processes, and models to support metadata, reference data, and service delivery.
* Design and assure data solutions across the full lifecycle, ensuring compliance with strategy, standards, and impact assessments.
* Champion data architecture within HMLR and contribute to cross-government data communities.
* Lead and develop a small team of associate/data architects, while providing expert advice to stakeholders.
* Bridge technical and non-technical needs, manage expectations, lead difficult discussions, ensure issues are investigated, resolved, and prevented.
* Profile and analyse data, provide insights, and stay ahead of emerging tools, techniques, and trends.
* Define governance frameworks, set and enforce data standards, and assure integration across business services.
* Create and align data models across subject areas; apply recognised patterns and design architectures that address complex business problems.
* Build and oversee metadata repositories; advise on tools and mentor less experienced team members.
* Mentor data professionals and support development of individuals and teams.
* Undertake data impact assessments and assure compliance with data policies and standards.
* Have experience in the public sector and an understanding of data in government; build relationships with external stakeholders and communities (e.g., Geospatial Commission or Government Data Architecture Community).
* Knowledge of data architecture concepts such as data warehousing or data mesh; experience with geospatial data and MDM concepts.
Location
Expectation is to be working from the Plymouth/Gloucester/Weymouth office 60% of the time (typically 3 days/week). Hours are flexible; condensed hours option available. Occasional travel to the Plymouth branch (DDA T HQ).
