The Role
Active Together is a multimodal prehabilitation and rehabilitation service that has been developed by world leading academics and practitioners at the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre (AWRC) at Sheffield Hallam University and funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research.
We are currently looking for a Lead Fitness Instructor to join our Active Together at our new centre in Hull.
Reporting to the Head of Active Together, you will establish and deliver the physical activity component of the Active Together programme, and you will train and manage a team of Fitness Instructors delivering the service. You will also work on developing, evaluating, and implementing rehabilitation services for adults with a cancer diagnosis. As Lead Fitness Instructor you will also ensure a multidisciplinary, inclusive, and responsive approach to service delivery.
Specifically, you will:
Service Delivery & Operations
Lead a team to deliver the Active Together service at the new centre in Hull
Manage and train Fitness Instructors to ensure high-quality service delivery
Implement evidence-based updates to the Active Together Programme, as advised by AWRC, ensuring treatment fidelity and data collection for evaluation
Provide expert guidance on physical activity for cancer patients, maintaining service standards and delivering high-quality care
Ensure support for patients dealing with emotional, psychological, and physical challenges related to their diagnosis
Operational Management & Administration
Maintain accurate data records within an agreed framework
Ensure integrity and consistency of service information and documentation
Lead on developing best practices within the team, maintaining local procedure documentation
Assist with audits and reviews to support ongoing service improvements
Communications & Outreach
· Support service promotion and engagement activities
· Develop and maintain online and public-facing resources (social media, websites, etc.)
Key Working Relationships
· Lead a team of Fitness Instructors, supporting their skills development and knowledge
· Allocate work and deploy resources to ensure effective caseload management
· Oversee collaborative working within the multidisciplinary service team with other Yorkshire Cancer Research staff and with HUTH clinical team.
About You
To be considered for this role, you will need:
To have a CIMPSA Level 4 qualification in Cancer and Exercise Rehabilitation
To have evidence of continued professional development relevant to the role
· To have experience as a Lead Fitness Instructor
· To have proven ability to deliver safe, effective group and individual exercise programmes for cancer patients
· To be skilled in risk assessment, exercise prescription, and service evaluation
· To have in-depth knowledge of exercise rehabilitation benefits for cancer and long-term conditions
· To have experience in applying evidence-based exercise interventions to support patient outcomes
· To have knowledge of behaviour change frameworks
· To have excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills
· To have the ability to motivate, collaborate, and support individuals and groups
· To have strong organisational and time management skills
· To be adaptable and resilient in response to change
· To be proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) for data analysis and documentation
· To have knowledge of professional ethics and their application in practice
· To have physical and emotional resilience to navigate sensitive situations effectively
