The Avon Valley School & Performing Arts College offers an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Catering Manager to lead our catering team. This position is associated with Band H SCP 14‑17, with an actual salary of £27,367‑£29,729. The role is full‑time, permanent, 37 hours per week, with flexible start times (6.30 am/7.00 am – 2.30 pm/3.00 pm) Monday through Friday. Hours are negotiable. It is a 40‑week year (40 weeks per annum: TTO plus teacher training days, plus a 1‑week holiday working). The job starts in April 2026.

The Role & Responsibilities
Reporting to the School Business Manager, you will be responsible for the day‑to‑day management and development of the school's catering provision. This is a hands‑on role that requires culinary expertise, strong leadership, and excellent customer service and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead, manage, and motivate the catering team.
* Design and implement exciting, balanced, and nutritious menus that meet school food standards and cater to student preferences and dietary requirements (including allergens and cultural needs).
* Oversee all aspects of kitchen operations, including food preparation, service, cleaning and maintenance, ensuring efficiency and high standards.
* Manage the catering budget, control costs, and ensure profitability and value for money, including stock ordering and waste management.
* Maintain the highest standards of food hygiene, health and safety, strictly adhering to all regulations (e.g., HACCP, COSHH). Conduct regular risk assessments and maintain accurate records.
* Work collaboratively with students, staff and parents to gather feedback and continuously improve the catering service.
* Ensure all catering activities comply with statutory requirements and school policies.

* Previous experience in a similar catering environment, preferably school catering.
* Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations, with a relevant qualification (e.g., Level 3 Food Hygiene).
* Excellent leadership, team‑building and communication skills.
* Experience with budget management.
* Creativity and innovation in menu planning and food presentation.
* Reliability, organisation and ability to work effectively under pressure.
* A positive, can‑do attitude and passion for providing exceptional service.
