NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. This is a fulltime post of 37 hours per week, with a shift pattern of rotational Monday to Sunday inclusive of nights weekends and cross site cover for Inverclyde Royal Hospital and Royal Alexandra Hospital sites when applicable.
Post holder will ensure that during their shift, the placement of patients into beds is both safe and appropriate and supports patient flow in both emergency and elective streams in addition to making the best use of the Boards bed stock to achieve both local and national targets.
Post holder will support all specialty Management Teams, Duty Managers and OPSMs both in and out of hours, providing senior support to ensure that best possible care is delivered in a safe manner.
Post Holder will work closely with an array of multi- disciplinary and speciality teams. To succeed in this role, you will need to possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You will also need to be able to deal with challenging situations in a fast-paced environment making independent decisions to avoid delays in the patient's journey, whilst acting in a calm and professional manner.
Oversee/ mentor, Band 5 Capacity Coordinators within the teams.
Main Duties:
o Maintain a 'bed state' that accurately reflects the position of RAH/IRH Hospital during the span of a shift.
o Coordinate the flow of both emergency and elective patients through RAH/IRH Hospital ensuring there is sufficient capacity to assist in the achievement of both The Board and National performance targets.
o Minimise patient moves ensuring all infection control guidelines are followed and ensure patients are allocated to single gender accommodation.
o Collate and be accountable for the accuracy of, Bed Management data for internal and external reporting.
o Knowledge of the physiological, pathological, social, and cultural issues which influence the care of patients.
o Be responsible for liaising with other agencies ensuring our patients are repatriated to their host organisations within the agreed timescale.
o Monitor the trigger factors associated with, and when necessary implement the Boards escalation policy.
o Proactively liaise with Flow team and AHPs with regards to discharge planning of patients to ensure patients are discharged safely with minimal delay.
o Maintain links with community agencies fostering good and productive working relationships.
