DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Human Resources Department (HR) provides overall advice, guidance, and direction on all aspects of people management, as well as providing administrative support functions to the management of 900+ employees at various locations throughout the UK.
JOB OBJECTIVE
Support the Head of HR to lead and deliver high-quality, compliant, and commercially minded HR services across MJ Quinn—driving effective ER case management, HR operations, HR systems/MI and engagement initiatives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The key responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following tasks:
Employee Relations and Case Management
Own the ER caseload end-to-end (e.g., disciplinaries, grievances, absence, capability), ensuring timely, fair, and legally compliant outcomes; coach managers and quality assure outcomes.
Chair or support formal hearings as appropriate; ensure accurate documentation and outcomes tracking.
Provide pragmatic advice on complex matters (e.g., TUPE, redundancy, settlement) and instruct external counsel where required, partnering closely with the Head of HR/HR Director for risk bearing cases.
HR Operations, Policy & Governance
Maintain and continuously improve HR policies, handbooks, and processes to reflect UK employment law and MJQ’s operating model; lead scheduled policy reviews and rollouts.
Ensure right-to-work processes, onboarding/offboarding, contractual documentation, and reference checks are robust and auditable.
Partner with Payroll/Finance to ensure accurate and timely pay changes, allowances, and benefits.
Communicate all policies and procedures and updates clearly to all employees.
HR Systems, Data & MI
Act as functional lead for Sage HR and coordinate with Sage People Payroll stakeholders to optimise workflows and data integrity; drive reporting and dashboarding for leadership (headcount, attrition, ER metrics, absence, DEI).
Work with the Head of HR to ensure people data governance (accuracy, security, retention) and statutory returns.
Talent & Performance
Coordinate induction, probation, performance cycles, and development plans; enable managers with tools, capability, and coaching.
Reward, Benefits & Wellbeing
Support annual pay review, remuneration proposals (REMCO), job evaluation, and benchmarking; ensure benefit enrolment and communications are clear and timely.
Champion wellbeing initiatives, EAP promotion, and local engagement activities.
Culture, Engagement & DEI
Promote MJQ values and behaviours; design local engagement plans (pulse surveys, action plans) and track delivery.
Partner on DEI action plans (e.g. inclusive policies, accessibility improvements) and ensure compliant, inclusive processes.
Leadership & Team Development
Provide day to day leadership, coaching, and workload management for HR Advisors/Assistants; set clear objectives, develop capability, and ensure service excellence.
Model professional standards; uphold confidentiality, integrity, and accountability in all HR activities.
Contribute to HR strategy and roadmaps with the Head of HR.
Collaborate with the Head of HR to support with projects or heavy workload.

Hours of Work 9am-5pm Monday-Friday, 35 hours per week
Rate of Pay £45,000-£50,000 per annum plus £3,600 Car Allowance per annum

Travel Requirements You will be primarily based at the above address; however, you may be required to support staff at our other office locations.
Holiday Entitlements 6.6 week per annum, inclusive of bank holidays and company shutdowns.
