Role Overview
The Gym Staff/Fitness Instructor is responsible for ensuring the smooth and safe operation of gym and wider Centre for Sport facilities. This includes:
Supervising users,
Enforcing Health & Safety and facility regulations,
Delivering fitness support services such as inductions and personal programmes.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Duties
Supervise gym users and equipment to ensure safe usage.
Implement and follow Normal Operating Procedures (NOPs) and Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) .
Enforce regulations to protect the Health & Safety of all facility users.
Provide Centre Assistant support when required (e.g., during breaks, absences, or peak times).
Customer Engagement & Support
Conduct gym inductions for new members to teach safe and effective equipment use. As well as deliver Synergy Gym Classes
Design and deliver Personal Exercise Programmes tailored to individual fitness goals.
Support Health Awareness Events and help promote university-wide wellbeing initiatives .
Maintenance & Reporting
Assist with the maintenance of gym equipment .
Report any health and safety hazards to the Operations Manager.
Skills, Knowledge & Attributes
Strong understanding of gym safety protocols, NOPs, and EAPs.
Experience in providing fitness instruction and customer service.
Ability to design exercise programmes for a variety of users (e.g., students, athletes).
Effective communication and supervision skills to engage with gym users confidently.
Relevant fitness qualifications (e.g., Level 2 Gym Instructor, Level 3 Personal Trainer).
Experience supporting community health initiatives .
Team player, adaptable, and proactive in contributing to broader facility needs.
