About the role
Central Operations Senior Quality Manager - Balfour Beatty (@one Alliance)
Location: Peterborough / Hybrid
Balfour Beatty plays a key role as part of the Anglian Water's @one Alliance, a ground-breaking collaboration between Anglian Water and eight industry-leading partners (Balfour Beatty, Barhale, Binnies, MMB, MWH Treatment, Skanska and SWECO). Together they deliver around 40% of Anglian Water’s capital investment programme.
Entering AMP 8, our most ambitious Asset Management Period yet, we’re taking on nature-based, sustainable solutions like wetlands and urban drainage schemes. We’re setting global benchmarks in environmental infrastructure and empowering our people with exceptional career growth opportunities.
This is a highly influential quality leadership role shaping how quality is governed, assured and continuously improved across the @one Alliance. As Central Operations Senior Quality Manager, you will define the systems, standards and insight that underpin consistent, right‑first‑time delivery across programmes and partner organisations. Operating at the heart of the Alliance, you will turn data, assurance findings and lessons learned into action — reducing systemic risk, strengthening commissioning readiness, and building confidence in asset handover, safety and regulatory compliance.
What you'll be doing
* Providing enterprise‑wide leadership of Central Quality functions, setting clear frameworks, standards and ways of working for Business Unit Quality teams
* Operating the Alliance quality assurance cadence, translating predictive insight, audits and assurance findings into clear, prioritised actions
* Defining and governing cross‑Alliance quality readiness criteria aligned to Delivery Milestones through Detailed Design, Construction, Commissioning, Operational Handover and Financial Completion
* Maintaining programme‑level dashboards and thematic analysis to identify emerging risks, recurring defects and systemic performance gaps
* Coordinating escalation and resolution of systemic quality issues, ensuring root causes are addressed and improvements embedded into standards and guidance
* Chairing quality governance forums and acting as the authoritative source of Alliance‑level quality performance and insight
* Embedding lessons learned from audits, investigations and delivery feedback into Management System, Lessons Learned Exchange, standards and delivery guidance
* Leading the evolution of quality systems through digitalisation, automation and improved use of data
* Working closely with SHEA, Design Assurance, Supplier Quality and Commercial teams to align quality, safety, delivery and commercial outcomes
Who we're looking for
* Extensive experience leading quality management and assurance within complex infrastructure or construction environments, ideally utilities or water
* Deep knowledge of quality management systems, auditing and standards such as ISO 9001
* Strong strategic mindset with the ability to translate data and insight into practical, preventative action at portfolio level
* A credible, inclusive leadership style with the confidence to challenge constructively and influence senior stakeholders
* Excellent communication and governance skills, with experience operating at enterprise or alliance level
