The Opportunity
As an Academic Learning Mentor, you will join a skilled, friendly and caring team who work together to provide the best possible personalised support for students. Your main role will be to support individual and small groups of students with a variety of special education needs both within the classroom and one to one. Academic Learning Mentors will work closely with SENCO to plan and deliver interventions students with individual needs. We are especially keen to appoint colleagues who may have knowledge of, or a willingness to develop expertise in, the areas of literacy and SEMH and how to support young people with these needs. There are many opportunities within the college not only for training and progression but also to become involved in wider college life.

Thurston Community College is a large popular mixed comprehensive school. It comprises of two distinct and specialist sites. Our Thurston Campus, for students from Year 7 to Year 11 is situated four miles east of Bury St Edmunds. Thurston Sixth; Beyton Campus is located in the nearby village of Beyton, offering a bespoke centre of excellence for students in year 12 and Year 13.
