Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Participate and supervise in food production to ensure quality and presentation of the highest standards.
* Prepare meals freshly made on site, eliminating the use of convenience products as far as possible.
* Plan a menu cycle twice yearly in advance to ensure variety and use of seasonal produce where appropriate.
* Oversee meal‑time services to ensure residents receive desired meals in a timely, professional and courteous manner.
* Work closely with the Care Home Management Team to ensure food and service meet individual resident needs.
* Plan catering rosters, manage holidays, absences and vacancies to ensure adequate staffing levels at all times.
* Participate in the recruitment and selection of catering staff.
* Conduct catering staff appraisals and address performance issues as needed.
* Purchase foodstuffs from nominated suppliers ensuring acceptable quality and price.
* Ensure budgeted targets are achieved and maintained.
* Be responsible for the security of all food storage areas, including stock rotation and regular stock‑taking.
* Maintain a high standard of cleanliness at all times within the kitchen and dining room.
* Coordinate and assist with staff training and development.
* Be flexible to changing resident needs and trends.
Health & Safety
* Ensure all tasks meet internal and legislative health, hygiene, quality and safety standards.
* Communicate details of any accidents to the Home Manager for appropriate action.
* Maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and professional appearance at all times.
* Keep a safe working environment by rectifying potential hazards and informing all parties of temporary hazards.
* Comply with BCHA policies and procedures and ensure catering staff are aware of and comply with them.
Building Relationships
* Undergo training courses and attend company meetings when necessary.
* Be prepared to change work methods, patterns or departments to help ensure smooth running of the unit.
* Work reasonable amounts of overtime where notice is given.
* Perform any other duties or variations required at any time.
Essential Competencies
* Experience managing staff.
* Relevant qualification in Catering.
* Basic Health & Safety experience.
* Basic Food Hygiene knowledge.
* Expenditure control.
* Ability to prioritise workloads and manage time.
* Two years’ experience in a similar role.
* Experience of planning nutritional meals to promote healthy lifestyles for different dietary needs.
* Team player.
* Ability to maintain absolute integrity, loyalty, vision and commitment to the Association’s values.
Desirable Competencies
* Basic IT skills: Word‑processing, e‑mail.
* Awareness of the needs of elderly people.
* Advanced Food Hygiene qualification.
