Salary: £60,000 - 90,000 per year Requirements: DV security clearance is essential. Proven experience as a backend or software engineer delivering production systems. Strong coding ability in Java, Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript. Solid understanding of backend engineering fundamentals, design patterns and API design. Experience working in Agile teams (e.g. Scrum, Kanban). Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset. Experience building backend services on cloud platforms (AWS preferred). Familiarity with microservices and containerisation. Experience with DevSecOps tooling (e.g. GitLab, Jenkins, Atlassian). Understanding of security best practices and OWASP principles. Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, Oracle, MongoDB) is beneficial. Responsibilities: Design and build backend services and APIs, delivering features end-to-end in collaboration with cross-functional teams. Develop cloud-native and containerised applications using technologies such as Java (Spring Boot), Python (FastAPI), Node.js and modern datastores. Build solutions within an Agile and DevSecOps environment, embedding security and quality throughout the delivery lifecycle. Integrate backend services into CI/CD pipelines, supporting automated testing and deployment. Ensure systems are reliable, resilient and scalable, applying Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles. Collaborate closely with frontend developers, architects, DevOps engineers and client stakeholders. Help clients and users understand technical trade-offs and make informed product decisions. Contribute to continuous improvement and engineering best practice across teams.
