Get hired when you're highly qualified

Your study background is filled with diplomas? You have come upon an exciting job offer? Being highly qualified can be a drag on employment. This can be explained by the fact that in most cases employers are unable to match the salary with your level of studies. Moreover, highly qualified employees can be seen as a threat for managers who may feel outperformed. Find out what to put forward to get the job !

Clean up your CV
If you are highly qualified, your CV most likely contains long descriptions of your professional experience and puts forward the diplomas and titles you have acquired. In order to make sure the recruiter remembers your application, delete the information that’s not directly linked to the position you are applying for. But do remember to put forward your skills and previous jobs you may have had as they will increase your chances in getting the job. Beware not to delete too much information, as some of this information may play in your favor and make your profile stand out among other.

Use the right vocabulary
You have found an interesting job offer, but don’t know which approach to have as the company is looking for an operational orientated profile. In order to show the company that your executive profile will suit the position offered, we advise you to use words that match the profile they are looking for, rather than using vocabulary dedicated to team management. Another tip is for you to put forward your ability to adapt, your willingness to learn and the sectors in which you are a high performer. Throughout your speech, use key words which figure in the job offer. Recruiters pay high attention to candidates whose speech is in line with the offer.

Use your motivation as a seduction asset
To make sure the recruiter doesn’t only focus on your high qualifications, try to remain focused on your motivation. By clearly explaining the reasons for which you are applying, why you want to work in the company and why you are interested in the position, you increase your chances of getting hired. If your motivation comes from changing career or personal factors, don’t hesitate to put these motivational aspects forward during the interview.

Get recommendations from your professional network
To be sure the recruiter goes beyond the idea of being highly qualified, you can use your professional network. People from your professional network who know your skills will recommend them to your future employer.

So, ready to apply ?
